UN urges action against nuclear trafficking

United Nations: The UN Security Council is calling on all countries to improve measures to detect, deter and disrupt illicit trafficking in nuclear materials.
A presidential statement approved by all 15 council nations and read at a formal meeting on Thursday also encouraged countries to strengthen export controls in order to prevent the transfer of information and technology that could be used for weapons of mass destruction or the missiles to deliver them.
The council reaffirmed that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons "constitutes a threat to international peace and security" and said it remains "gravely concerned" that such weapons could get into the hands of terrorists.

It welcomed commitments made by countries at the 2010 and 2012 Nuclear Security Summits to increase nuclear security.
